OUR APPROACH: we make construction personal
At Frecon, we understand that construction is highly individualized. Just as every one of our clients is different, so is every one of the buildings we build. To us, there’s no such thing as a cookie-cutter project. That’s why we take the time to understand our clients’ needs, to dive deep into their expectations for their buildings, and to understand the aspects of their projects that worry them most.
Why do we do this? Because in a business as big and as complex as construction, it’s easy to forget that real people—just like you and me—stand behind every project. Our track record of more than 40 years in business has taught us that construction must be about more than moving quickly from project to project in order to make a buck. It has taught us that, first and foremost, we must serve the people who stand behind those projects. After all, the more we as builders can do to serve those people to the best of our abilities—and beyond their expectations—the stronger the reputation we build for ourselves and the more likely we are to win repeat business.

For us, there is no greater pleasure than completing a project to a client’s absolute satisfaction. We believe that in so doing, we generate goodwill among the members of our project teams and with the buyers of our services, who return to Frecon for future construction needs.

Simply expressed, it is the product of many years’ experience working in Eastern Ontario’s institutional, commercial and industrial construction sector, and it captures the spirit of Frecon’s approach to every construction site. When we say we are responsible, we mean that we work within the parameters of a project to ensure the methods we use and the processes we follow ensure no detail is overlooked. Additionally, many of our employees are trained to the national Gold Seal standard for professionalism and excellence in the performance of construction activities such as estimating, site supervision and project management.
When we say we are safe, we assert our commitment to the highest industry standards for health and safety. We are proud to have met the stringent requirements described in the Certificate of Recognition program for excellence in health and safety programming, and we have been recognized by the former Construction Safety Association of Ontario for zero injuries over the course of more than 900,000 person-hours worked.
When we say we are fair, we confirm to our clients and our jobsite partners that we want every member of the project team to finish a Frecon project with a positive experience. OUR HISTORY: success built through honesty, fairness and old-fashioned hard work
Dennis and Micheline Drevniok founded Frecon Construction as a precast company in 1973. In the years leading up to the creation of the business, Dennis had developed a strong base of expertise in the precast concrete sector. Variously, he worked for the City of Ottawa, as well as for companies in California and in the Bahamas.
When the married couple set down roots in Russell, Ontario—then a tiny suburb of Ottawa—they founded Frecon Precast Limited. The business was small in those days. So much so that Dennis continued to work for another general contracting company by day while running his own endeavours in the evening. As the years passed, Dennis and Micheline came to understand that their passion in business lay outside precast. It was in general contracting. In 1979, Dennis quit his job as an estimator elsewhere and he and Micheline devoted themselves to the newly minted Frecon Construction Limited full time.
Hard work and dedication were the hallmarks of a Frecon project in the ensuing years. And the company grew organically as a result. By 1984, the company was tendering—and winning—jobs valued at $1 million and more, and in 1988 sales exceeded $2 million for the first time. By 1995, the company had become an altogether different entity. Frecon Construction was consistently working on multi-million dollar design- bid-build and design-build projects, and a new generation of the Drevniok family—sons Dean and Dale—had joined the company.
Business continued to boom. By 1996, sales exceeded $10 million for the first time in history. Two years later, sales doubled to $20 million annually. Flush with success and secure in the notion that the future of the company they founded was safe in the hands of their sons, Dennis and Micheline retired from Frecon Construction in 2002. Two years later, Dean assumed sole control over the business when Dale left to pursue other ventures.
Under Dean’s direction, Frecon Construction has continued to not only grow, but also establish a name for itself as a trusted and reputable eastern Ontario builder. Sales now exceed $60 million annually. The company operates satellite offices in Kingston and Pembroke in order to serve clients across the Ottawa Valley. Most of its site superintendents and project managers are certified to the national Gold Seal standard for excellence in construction, and the company is one of the few in Eastern Ontario to achieve the Certificate of Recognition standard for exemplary management of health and safety matters.
Dean’s eldest son Douglas Drevniok began working full time in 2012 in the family business. Shortly thereafter in 2014 Darcy Drevniok following the tradition joined Frecon Construction. Today, Dean and his wife Donna-lee oversee the regular operations of the business and are proud to see the third generation.
More importantly, Frecon Construction is known to be a company that delivers projects to a consistently high standard that aims to forge lasting relationships with owners and project partners alike. We offer employees the opportunity to learn and grow into new and evermore challenging roles.
